演講題目： The Language Use of Taiwan's Indigenous Peoples: the Amis (Pangcah) Case

講題摘要
Despite the writing systems jointly announced by the Council of Indigenous Peoples and the Ministry of Education (2005), Formosan languages remains largely spoken rather than written.
In the first half of the presentation, two examples of the Amis language will be provided so as to show how, from the perspective of a native speaker, a spoken language can be researched linguistically so that both linguists and native speakers can be benefited. The first example focuses on the inner logic of the language being studied. The second one pays attention to the communication of a rather isolated language with the outer world, that is, how cultural exchanges (which is unavoidable and important for any culture in the world) can be made possible through linguistic studies.

In the latter half of the presentation, the relationship between the survival of Formosan languages and linguistic research will be highlighted: (1) What kind of linguistic research is expected by the Indigenous peoples? (2) Why such research bears significance for the Indigenous population in Taiwan?

Nakao Eki Pacidal 目前為荷蘭萊登大學歷史系博士候選人，專長為台灣歷史之史觀與語言。在此之前於美國哈佛大學獲科學史碩士學位，碩士論文題目為 "Reconstructing Reality: History, Historical Novel and the Beijing Calendar Controversy, 1658-1670"。
