講題：Unlearning as a Process of Learning in Second Language Acquisition

摘要：This talk addresses the transitional and end-state interlanguage grammars relating to Second Language Acquisition. It focuses on learners' difficulty in unlearning linguistic properties that are transferred from their L1s and are not instantiated in the target language. Results of empircal experiments on L2 lexicons, L2 thematic interpretations, L2 discourse markers are presented to illustrate how the transferred L1 properties fall into a dormant status when the input provides no evidence confirming or disconfirming the transfer. This dormant status leads to random behaviours in L2 judgements and interpretations. This implies that L2 grammars might permanently deviate from grammars of native speakers because to acquire native-like grammars is more than acquiring the target L2 property; it also requires removal of the L1 property that is not instantiated in the L2.
